Grant

Applicants seeking funding through the grant program should have a history of, or significant potential for, producing events attracting out-of-parish visitors, as participants or spectators, thereby generating overnight occupancy of hotel/motel rooms in Alexandria. As well, events generating national or statewide exposure for Alexandria will receive priority consideration.

Examples of events include:

• National or state professional and amateur sporting events
• Professional gatherings, such as retreats, and development and training conferences
• Municipal, parish, state, federal and other government-sponsored events
• Civic organizations, fraternity, and sorority meetings
• Cultural and artistic events
• Youth-based entertainment and development
• Business leagues and professional organizations
• Recreational tours and activities
• Banquets and special recognitions
• Educational training, development, and planning meetings
• Multiple day festivals, cultural, civic, and other activities

GAEDA will issue grants in the following categories (Amounts to be determined internally by GAEDA):

Category I: Major Sponsorships: Minimum two-day events with 100 or more hotel room nights per day of the event. Funds are to be used exclusively for advertising and promotion in out-of-market media.

Category II: First Time Events: These would include newly created events or ones that have little history. Subsequent year funding will be determined by results of the first or second year.

Category III: Other Events: Two or more day events that bring significant number of visitors to Greater Alexandria.

Grants will only be considered for amounts between $5,000 to $10,000.

GAEDA will not act as a sole source funder of any event or project. Commitment of other funding sources and evidence of sustainability are required in the budget and description of the project.
